Building Cureforu: engineering a global rare disease collaboration platform
Cureforu connects medical boards and doctors across the globe to collaborate on rare disease cases. Here is how we approached security, credential trust, and scale from day one.

Cureforu connects medical boards and doctors across the globe to collaborate on rare disease cases — enabling secure case sharing, peer consultation, and cross-institutional knowledge exchange. Murphy Repos was engaged as the development partner to design, build, and scale the platform from concept to a production-ready system trusted by specialists and medical institutions worldwide.
The challenge
Cureforu came to us with a clear mission but a complex technical brief: build a platform that could handle sensitive medical case data, support real-time collaboration between verified doctors, and scale globally — while meeting the security, compliance, and trust standards that healthcare professionals demand.
- Handling sensitive, de-identified patient case data to HIPAA/GDPR-aligned standards from day one
- Verifying medical credentials at scale, globally — a single unverified account undermines the platform
- Real-time, secure communication between doctors and boards without compromising security
- Supporting structured case discussions, not just chat, with attachments and discussion threads
- Designing for a low-tolerance, high-trust user base that abandons clunky or slow tools quickly

Our approach
Discovery focused on understanding the clinical workflows Cureforu needed to digitize — how a medical board reviews a case, how a specialist requests a second opinion, and how case data needs to move (and not move) between institutions. That shaped an architecture built around three principles: security and compliance by design, a modular case-data architecture so new specialties and board workflows could be added without re-engineering the core system, and global-first infrastructure anticipating multi-region deployment from the outset.
- Custom credential-verification workflow with institutional affiliation checks and manual medical-board review gates
- Structured, versioned case records supporting attachments, de-identification tagging, and discussion threads
- Real-time messaging and notification infrastructure built for asynchronous, global time-zone usage
- Role- and institution-based permissioning so boards, specialists, and administrators see only what they are authorized to see
- Encryption in transit and at rest, audit logging, and de-identification safeguards
- Cloud-native, horizontally scalable infrastructure to support multi-region deployment as the network expanded
We needed a technical partner who understood that this platform wasn't just software — it was infrastructure doctors would trust with real patient cases. Murphy Repos treated security and clinical workflow accuracy as first-class requirements from day one, not afterthoughts.
Cureforu Founding Team
What this enabled
Murphy Repos worked as an embedded technical partner rather than an external vendor, with a dedicated cross-functional team (engineering, product, QA, security) working directly with Cureforu's founders and clinical advisors, and milestone demos aligned to the platform's phased rollout: founding cohort, specialist network, medical board integration, and global expansion. The result is a platform architecture that scaled from a founding cohort to a broader network of affiliated institutions without a major re-platforming event, with a modular foundation that let Cureforu introduce medical-board-level review workflows in a later phase without disrupting the existing specialist experience.
